How to Change a Light Bulb

Changing a light bulb is an easy thing to do once you know how! Below we have put together a step by step guide which will talk you through how to go about it.
- Turn off the power
First, make sure the light switch is off. Then turn off the power in your property. The safest way to do this is to switch the large red power button to ‘off’ on the fuse box. Your fuse box is normally found in the basement of your property or in a utility cupboard in your kitchen. (If your unsure where this is, please call us at YourNest and we can advise) - Don’t touch when hot!
Give the bulb time to cool down before touching it. - Use a ladder
Don’t stand on a chair or sofa, make sure you can reach the bulb safely by using ladders to access. - Remove the bulb
Unscrew the bulb out of its ‘socket’. Depending on whether your bulb has a bayonet or a screw end will depend on how you remove this.
Which fitting is my lightbulb?

Bayonet – two prongs at opposite side
- Hold the bulb lightly but firmly, push upwards gently. Then turn the bulb anticlockwise about a quarter of a circle and then pull very lightly down. This should release the bulb

Screw End
Hold the bulb lightly but firmly and turn anticlockwise until the bulb comes loose and away from the fitting.
- Replace
Replace the bulb with the same fitting bulb and insert in reverse of how you removed the old one. Make sure you dispose of the old bulb in a bin safely - Restore power
Once the bulb is in, turn the power back on again and switch on the light.
Remember:
- Always use the same wattage for the replacement bulb as the one you remove
- Dispose of the bulb in a bin straight away
- Never ever put your fingers in the exposed light socket
